Monday night life drawing (May 23 2011)

While I bunker down and work on my assignment, it’s time for your weekly dose of nudity!

I had a bit of trouble with this pose. Funny enough, tonight I went much better on the short sketches

This is my favourite sheet from the class. The drawing on the right is my favourite from tonight in particular – I’ve learned something, and I’m getting better at this! Drawing curves is fun.

Monday night life drawing (May 16 2011)

hour and a half long pose

I think the Monday night lifedrawing is going to be a regular thing. I’m really enjoying the class, and it’s fun getting tips on things I can do to improve.

The model was really nice and sweet, and drawing her was fun practice.

I liked my third page of ten minute sketches best. The model did too, so she has that page now – I still have a photo on my phone, I just need to find a way to get it off that and onto the computer now 🙂

life drawing week 2

Hour long pose

I am (very unsuccessfully) battling with an assignment at the moment. Meanwhile, have more stuff from life drawing class –

Ten minute poses
  1. I used to hate charcoal. I mainly use hard graphite sticks for drawing, as I tend to make a mess with anything softer. But after borrowing the instructor’s charcoal pencil (one of those awesome ones with a string pull to expose more lead, and a pencil-like cardboardy thing on the outside so you don’t get your whole hands dirty before doing anything), I was completely convinced of charcoal’s awesomeness. Went out to get my own pencil for future sketchings and studies. V pleased.
  2. I really like the Canberra Arts Workshop, since the classes let you have fun and the people are lovely and the instructor’s been really awesome with giving me tips. In this picture, the first sketch – the one on the right – I was having trouble finding my way and messing about. Instructor recommended I use wavier, looser lines and flowing curves – and it really paid off with the second one, the sketch on the left.
